Goliath stood 9 feet 9 inches tall, clad in a bronze coat. His coat probably weighed more than David. Young lightly built David was no match. Yet with the declarations of his mouth and one smooth pebble, David brought the mighty giant down.
Hundreds of Pharaoh’s chariots followed the Israelites as they neared the Red Sea. Their lives were in grave danger. But a simple act of Moses raising his staff and stretching out his hand over the sea, parting the Red Sea, enabled 2 to 3 million people to pass through dry ground to safety.
The wall of Jericho had a stone retaining wall 12 to 15 feet high, topped with a mud-brick wall 13 to 15 feet (6 feet thick), and seemed utterly impenetrable. Still, God’s instructions were simple. For six days, the Israelites marched once around the city. On the seventh day, they marched seven times. At the sound of the trumpet and a mighty shout, the walls collapsed.
There was nothing in the widow’s house except a jar of oil. Her creditors were coming to take her 2 sons as slaves. Her situation was sad and hopeless. Yet when she obeyed the simple command of the prophet Elisha, all the jars were filled with oil. She sold the oil and paid off her debts.
Finally, when you and I desperately needed rescue from the dark pits of hell, God offered His Son on the cross and said – If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. That is a simple instruction for the most complex issue we face.
Friend, when we are faced with a complex issue, do we wait on the Lord for His simple instructions or do we start charting a complex 10 step plan to solve it?
Let us pray
Dearest Abba,
We come before your throne asking for grace to listen to your simple instructions. You are the all wise, all knowing Father. When I face overwhelming challenges or simple problems, prompt me to come to you and seek your face and your guidance. Let pride not make me stumble thinking what you say is too simple. Give me the grace to be obedient to do exactly what you tell me to do because victory comes from you alone.
Thank you Abba…
In Jesus Name
Amen
